When I belonged to a MGA Club, they had a checklist of recommended annual maintenance, and a tune-up guide. Anyone have a checklist they would like to share? Also, which oil weight are most folks using, and any recommendation on spark plug brands, etc. I am driving a 1968 Series 1 1/2 FHC.

Hi Steven

Quality copies of the original manuals for your Jag are available. I would get the Jaguar 4.2 E-type and 2+2 operating . maintenance, and service manual that came with the cars, as well as the Jaguar E-type Models Series 1 and 2 Service Manual. Everything you want and much more is in there.

Most people use 20W-50 grade oil unless their oil pressure is exceptionally high even when the car engine is hot. Low oil pressure tends to be more of a problem. Some of us worry about the low ZDDP content of modern oils, altho the overhead cam system in a Jag is pretty gentle. MGs certainly require ZDDP at 1200 ppm for their push rod system. I am using Penn Grade #1 Racing Oil. Castrol is supposed to have a new classic car oil with high ZDDP. There are others, but be careful of charts on the web because the analyses are old. The feds require low ZDDP in standard oils to protect catalytic converters.

I have used various brands of spark plugs and could never see any difference.

I like my Pertronix electronic ignition. No more points and no more timing. It just runs.

Good luck

Curt
