When I lower the top on my car the left side of the rear window rubs against the back of the of the left rear seat. It rubs in the area of the left side seat belt. The leather was ripped by the rear window. Any sugestions on how to repair this problem?
Thanks,
Herb

1995 roadster top problem
Herb & Gary,
This is a common problem. I tried the adjusting the guide rails and lubeing them.
But it did not improve it much if any,
What I ended up doing is removing the seat back and using a block of wood and a "thor " hammer, I worked from one side to the other bending the back panel in about a 1/4 inch.
I still stop the top and push back on the window as it clears the seat top.
At one time on a different Forum someone suggested the upper window straps were to long.
That adjustment requires partially removing the top to reattach them.

1995 roadster top problem
Herb- I also have a 1995 XJS 4.0L convertible and have noticed the same problem on both contact points near the safety belts on the top back side of the seats. Small abrasions are evident on the driver's side and a distinct rub mark appears on the passenger side. Each mark is about 1" high and 2" long and exactly equal distant from the safety belts. If you find a good fix for this problem, please let me know. Thanks! -Gary Cunningham
Dan- Thanks for the tips. I am trying to catch my problem before I need to replace any seat leather. Your simple fix seems like the way to go. -Gary
