Short Story: Series II Radio console (Factory A/C but not Factory Radio) has a spot for the radio, a spot for the cigarette lighter on the front right, and one more hole on the front left. What goes here?? I don't see it often, but did come across the same configuration on a car on the internet. Let me know if you know - picture attached. The pic in a put-together car is something I saw online that has a toggle-switch (looks like the headlight dip switch?) the one sitting on the floor is mine.

Long Story: My Uncle (who drove the car more), told me that my great uncle (who sold me the car) had issues at one point with the AC Compressor's switch and was having trouble getting parts back in the day, so he just bypassed the switch and "put in" a toggle switch in the radio console. The thing is - the hole is perfect, doesn't seem home drilled, seems factory. Also - the compressor is working fine, though it could have been subsequently repaired I think someone is miss-remembering something. To stay true to my uncle I'll probably put in a dummy switch (SI dash toggle doesn't fit bummer, but an off-the-shelf switch fits perfectly) but if it is supposed to be for something real I'd love to know. See pic. Yeah, I wrote to the folks selling the online car but who knows if it is even a real/fresh listing at this point.

My 68 Series 1.5 came with a power antenna and the switch is in the same position as the mystery hole. The centre console on the 68 is different, with the cigar lighter centred above the radio, so the PO put a dummy switch on the right side of the console so it would be symmetrical.

I would like to replace both standard metal switches with Jag-style toggles with the plastic tabs - does anyone know which replacement switch would have the correct wiring for an up/down power antenna (spring loaded up and down)?

Back in the late '70's I got tired of pulling the antenna up and down with my fingers so I bought a power one at Auto Zone. I installed it relatively easily and put the up/down toggle switch left of the main instruments on the panel. In this pic, you can see the hole is about the right size.

Love ejector seat and Nitrous ideas...power antenna sounds like a possibility for that other car (it is their steering wheel - not mine. I've got standard and love it) There never was a power antenna on mine...hopefully when I get the radio hooked back up we'll find other wires and chase them down. Hum....Thanks guys.
