I have what I believe is one of the original Dunlop SP Sport tires as my "spare" mounted on my 5th chrome wheel.
2 issues though: 1) I'd never really drive on it. 2) I think it stinks up the car...yucky plastic/rubber smell.
I try to never throw anything away from the car for the sake of value & originality, though I never plan on selling it. Its a driver. I may show it for fun in the future and having the tire would probably be pretty cool but it is seriously not practical. I'd un-mount it and keep it if I could, but even though it looks good I'm sure you'd never get it off the wheel without cutting it off.
Should I
a) Cut it off, mount myself a safe spare?
b) Buy a new wheel & tire as a real spare and keep the "original" it in the garage for "one day"?
Thanks. I dare you to try to reply with this new forum system ;)-

Original tire Dunlop
If it's a good tire , why not keep it as the spare ? The wire wheel may be suffering, but the tire is likely still good. I know mine is . It holds air well.

David - the tire stinks to high heaven for some reason...don't want to have it in the car.
