For the last several months my 1990 V12 has been showing erratic oil pressure readings. At 60-70 mph it will usually read 50+ psi but occasionally will drop well below 50. Then at a stop light it will consistently drop to near zero. This was alarming until I checked for leaks and oil levels and found there was no real loss. I assume it is the pressure sending unit but wonder if there are any other potential causes. I can order a replacement sending unit from Jagbits and others but would like another opinion before I do. Thanks.

V12 oil pressure fluctuation
Steve, with what you have given us, I'd say you are probably OK. The V12 engine oil pressure spec for hot idle is only 7 psi; that's basically the bottom of your barrel gauge. You also have a separate oil pressure light that should come on if the pressure truly gets too low. To be sure that light works, check to see that it's on when the ignition is on and the engine off.
Cheers,
Steve
