While working on my Jaguar XKE, I find the front of differential VERY close to the passenger side floor tunnel (picture from below car). Doesn't look right to me. The differential is bolted to the subframe with 4 tapered bolts (no adjustment) and the subframe is mounted to the car with a "subframe mount" that looks much like a motor mount (these are brand new with no adjustment). The subframe doesn't look bent. I looked at another XKE and the differential is also offset to the passenger side. Question: are they all like that?

XKE Differential Spacing
I have a rear out that goes in my 66. It is about 1.5" offset. Would not have thought.

David, to answer your question, yes they are all like that. With the independent rear axles, being close is not a problem. The rear cage was shimmed where it mounts to the body to center it. Since the pinion doesn't move, just the axles move up & down, the drive shaft can run close to the body. Look in the parts book, you will see the shims for the sub frame mounts.
