vehicle lost power during drive doing 55 mph. lost power to apx. 15mph. upon inspection driver side exhaust, think convertor, was red hot.now vehicle will start but no power and tran. hard to shift into drive. any sugestions please

it does sound like a transmission issue...and a 1994 would have a module that controls it I think.

thanks for the reply. have 94 xj12 appx. 48,000 mi. discovered at used car lot ,in the back lot. anyway checked tran. oil level . ok. still hard to go into drive. reverse ok. but still no power. exhaust off but not a real loud sound. heard louder on street with exhaust intact. drove vehicle before and only problem was oil pressure guage moved up and down. only had full pressure at first start. changed oil but it did not help. now have car in gurage on stands. need help. thanks larry

low oil in trans will result in fwd gears being reluctant to engage, however reverse usually engages easilly. Try starting the car with exhausts disconnected and see if it revs freely, please not after dark unless you have no neighbours, Art

thanks for the reply. trying to restore this beautiful car. never seen another engine like this one. been told not the normal 6.0 . special
vehicle? but still a v-12. have taken both exhaust off at end of header. vehicle has very little power. fluid in trans. but hard to move in drive ok in reverse. part that was glowing red hot was exhaust near oil filter. thought car was going to catch on fire. cooled down now problem. any help?

what year/model?

it sounds like a stopped-up catalytic converter, never seen anything like red-hot. But the transmission being hard to shift, that sounds like the torque converter or the transmission without oil.
