Tried to start my 1966 E-Type over the weekend, I noticed my gas pedal was sticking more than normal...I sprayed some starter fluid into the carbs, and I could get the engine to just about catch, but it would die almost immediately. I could tell it was igniting the starter fluid, but there's no gas getting into it.

I suspect it's the carbs, but I am wondering if there could be something else inhibiting fuel flow (lines, filters). I would have thought even though I shot some starter fluid, there'd be some residual gas getting in that would allow the car to idle, but no dice.

Any ideas? I know this isn't much to go on...

Ian,

After my initial post, I went back and checked that - sure enough, no ticking, which obviously means it's not getting gas to the carbs.

It's either the sending unit or the fuel pump itself - I will likely replace both just to be safe.
