All,
Has anyone ever installed LED tail lights/brake lights from Welsh or any other source on a E type. If so, Did they make a difference or would you recommend otherwise? I am purely looking at at a increasing safety purpose-not interested in concours perspective. Etype's on the road are rare and when you have drivers who never ever saw them or admire them, they can get pretty close(dangerously close). I welcome all comments and or suggestions-Thanks in advance! I have enclosed the website from Welsh Enterprise- Below
Cheers,
-Gordon

Gordon,
He also makes them in a positive ground for those who need them. The seller has 100% positive feedback with remarks like "Love the LED's. I have installed six of these, lights up the gauges very bright" and that's why I bought them. Let us all know if you agree.

Gordon, Tom's source looks like a great bargain. If you can be sure of the quality and brightness of these bulbs, they are much more affordable than what I bought!

Brake Led Lights
Gordon, I'm not a guy of much means so I'm fugal by necessity. If you or anyone wants to solve the safety issue of dim dashboard instrument lights I would recommend replacing the two bulbs found in both the speedometer and tachometer with the LED's I found at the link below at a cost of $5 each. For another $20 buy four more for the Battery, Water Temp, Oil Pressure Fuel meters.

Brake Led Lights
Gordon, I bought the LED units, front and back, from two different vendors, one set from Welsh and the other from XK's Unlimited. I know XK's now sells the proper flasher unit for $12.95, Welsh probably has it also. I bought mine at Advance Auto. Just be sure you know whether your car is positive or negative ground when you go to buy the LED units and flasher.
My car is a S1 and the flasher is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. It just pulls straight out and you plug the new one in. I would take the old flasher with you if you go to buy the new one at a parts store.

Brake Led Lights
All
Thanks much for your input. Alan I installed a third brake light in my GT so I understand. Don, Howard I called the company and like you said I need a flasher.I am not a mechanic but want to save myself a few $$$$-Is there a specific flasher model/ serial number, etc That I need to use for series 1.5 -Additionally, where would I find the place in the car where the flasher is to be installed, located? Is there any photos or simple wire diagrams for a person like me to undertake. Once again, Thanks

Brake Led Lights
Gordon,
I installed LED units in rear and front . No hassle whatsoever! They are bright and give a real dose of assurance that you will be seen! As Don said you have to plug in a flasher unit that works for LED's. No sweat.
And if you want to feel even better after suffering all these years, (45 years for me), about not being able to see your instruments at night, treat yourself to a full set of LED bulbs for your dash and backup light. Really amazing results!

Brake Led Lights
Gordon: I put the LED kit on my 66' E-type about 2 years ago and they have been trouble free.. The old girl has trophys in driver class at our last two Concours, don't know how it would fair at a national event but the lights are MUCH brighter and a piece of cake to install. I also had to use the low draw flasher rather than the stock one, it just plugs in place of the stock flasher and was less than $15. If you drive your E-type on todays roads with the idots on their cell phones, you need all the help you can get with your warning lights.

Brake Led Lights
Gordon - I have toyed with the idea but so far have only seen these on earlier Jags, an XK and a Mk II. They make a big difference on those small tail lights. I have added a third brake light at the top of my rear hatch (inside) for better rearward visibility. One problem is the hydraulic brake light switch which is a high pressure unit that requires (in my view) too much foot pressure on the brake pedal before the brake lights operate. Generic low hydraulic pressure alternatives are available and I assume they can fit an E-Type with little or no mods. These should operate the brake lights with much less foot pressure.
All,
Wanted to provide feedback---Just had the rear led tail, brake and signal lights installed by my mechanic. Big difference in able to be seen even in day light and at night. I have yet to get around getting the led bulbd installed for the interior switches, that will be tied into another upgrade I am planning for the car.
