We purchased a 04 XKR Portfolio and took it to our first concours. The wheels have been chromed and we got docked some points. Does anyone know if the factory wheels were chrome?

Wheels on 2004 XKR Portfolio
Larry,
The best information I have available (from Jaguar) indicates that chrome wheels were not available on the Modern XKs from the factory until the 2006 model year. Look at Appendix B of the rule book. I'm cuurently updating Appendix B to reflect the 2005,2006,& 2007 model year wheels. It's not an easy task.

Larry,
Stew's task of updating Appendix B to account for the myriad of available wheels for the late model Jaguars is a daunting one. Until that is done, the current issue of Appendix B is what the judges must go by. It states that you should have Detroit BBC 5-spoke alloys 2 piece wheels, 9" on the fronts and 10" on the rears.
However, if you can provide acceptable documentation that the chromed wheels were on the car from the factory, you can protest the deduction and the points will be returned to you. I'd suggest you start by going to your dealer with your VIN and asking them to print off the Direct Dealer Warranty - Vehicle Details. This will list the items the car was fitted with when built. For example, for my 2002 X-Type this document lists the wheels as "6.5 x 16 5-spoke alloys".
You should know that if a previous owner had the wheels chromed, or if the original dealer had them chromed, even before the car was first sold, the deduction is correctly applied.
Good luck, please report back what you find out.
