Does anyone know how to remove the front seats from a 68 2+2 seies 1.5. I see no bolts . The seats do not move forward or backwards, but they do recline. I wanted to check the plastic rollers on the tracks but cannot figure out how to remove the seats. Hopefully it's not too involved.
Any instructions ( pictures would be nice ) would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

My rollers were shot when I bought the car (692+2) The seats were very hard to move. Try holding the lever with someone else pushing the seat forward.
Also remember the lever only directly releases one track, the other is attached to it by a wire. Make sure the wire is intact or not stretched to the point that the other track isn't releasing.
New rollers are now available from either XKs unlimited or SNG Barrett, I forget which. I've installed a new set and they make a world of difference.
Best Regards, John

Removal of Seats 68 2+2
HI, the problem is I cannot move the seats forward at all. I will try spraying some silicone & see if it frees them up. The cable which is supposed to unlock the ratchets from the rails is fine, but I do not see the ratchets or if they are releasing. Maybe a sping has broken. Will investigate some more & post a progress report.
Thanks

I have a '68 ragtop. The seats in mine were bolted through the floor pan - I think previous owner made modifications. Nonetheless, I had to slide the seats forward to access the rear bolts and back to access the front bolts. It could be the rollers on your seats have collapsed, preventing movement. You may also try spraying some lubricant on the rails. Good luck.

Hi , thanks , I will try. The problem is that the seats are stuck all the way back & I can't move them forward. Will look for the bolts & see if I can get at them.
Thanks

Stew:
Doesn't the '68 have S2 seats? If so, there are only two bolts, on the rear of the tracks (actually, they are pozidrive screws). The fronts mount in keyways. You unbolt the rear, and then just slide the fronts out off the keys.
If the seat is stuck, you first need to figure out how to get it moved forward. I haven't had mine out in a while, but if I recall correctly, the left and right track ratchets are tied together with a wire. It's possible the wire is broken, leaving one ratchet locked in place.

The bolts are recessed in the tracks. Slide the seat back to access the front bolts, then slide the seat forward to acess the rear bolts. The bolts go into captive nuts.

Michael,
The 2&2 seats mount slightly different than the OTS and FHC seats. You are correct about the posidrive screws rather than bolts. There were Part No. changes throughtout MY '68 and S2 production; other than the addition of headrests and the late S2 tiltback handle, these changes where internal, i.e. non judgable. It's been nearly 20 years since I've worked on these seats.
