Yes, there is a microswitch on the handbrake lever. When the lever is pulled, it lights the telltale on the instruments and enables the convertible top. No telltale, no top operation; unless the bulb is burned out.
Good luck!

Switched switches, as suggested, no luck. Is there a switch on the hand break that can be checked or disabled?

Does the 'Park Brake' telltail come on when you pull the brake lever up?? If it does not, the top won't work.
Cheers,

Thanks, I'll see if I can get the switches out without breaking the bezel. The fuse is good

Did you check the 30amp fuse in the trunk above battery?
It may be the actual roof switch. I had to clean my switch contacts on my 1995 XJS 2+2. You could easily test the switch by removing all three switches: left window switch, roof switch, right windows switch. The wiring connections are the same so you could swap one of the windows switches with the roof switch for a test. If the swapped switch works the roof, then it is the switch. You can open these switches witch a small screwdriver and clean the contacts, otherwise, you could just replace the switch.
If the switch is not the issue, there are relays in the trunk above the battery and a 30amp fuse
The light on the instrument panel lights up. Does that mean the hand break switch controlling the top is working properly?
Thanks
