The car starts but the engine dies after several seconds and then will not start. Problem happened suddenly. Please help me by identifying where I can look. Thanks

Help!! WIll not start XJ6 series 111 1989
John,
You might want to have a look here, so you have an understanding of the various XJ models:

But, for certain you do not have a Series III if you have failure signals as you describe. I'd suggest starting with ensuring you have fuel delivery to the injectors.

I assumed I had a Series 111. When I checked for parts I followed the listing for xj40. As to the problem at hand. After sitting the car starts for about 2 seconds and then dies. It will not re-catch. It as if an interlock activates.
The only change I did was to clear the computer signal that said low brakes (this is the bad connection on the brake pad) and circut 2 failure which I have no idea as to what this means. Attempts to restart the car reinstates the notices

The last Ser III XJ6 was built in April, 1987. After that the Ser III remained in production with the V12 engine only.
So, if you have a 1988 six cylinder car it won't be a Ser III :-)

Doug, I thought they made Series III XJ6s up until 1992 and that they were available in Canada.

John,
Please identify your car fully. There is no such thing as a 1989 XJ6 Series III. Do you have a different year, or do you have an XJ40?

Thank you Doug, I do indeed have an xj40, and will start with the fuel system.
Thanks Again
