I need to replace my tires....currently have Pirelli P4000 Super Touring and have been told the replacement is the P6 Four Seasons.

I have read a lot of bad reviews of this tire (bulges on side walls after hitting pot hole, blow outs, etc.), so if anyone can help me out with a tire that has worked well for them on the XJ6 I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,

ok, I know exactly what you're saying; From 1994 through 1996 I drove to downtown Philadelphia from Tennessee in my XJ-6, to go visit my fianc?® every 2 months. I remember very well the winter road conditions there and I never had a scare or accident with my Dunlops; I'm a very careful driver for sure, but I also like to 'push the envelope' in my XJ, even on the icy wet roads of Pennsylvania. My Dunlops were (and still are), excellent tires for the road conditions over there. I forgot to say previously, they are also very quiet tires, unlike other brands I have used since 1970 which transmit a lot of road noise. Last year I purchased a '65 S type and the Owners manual states that the recommended tires are Dunlop for the same reasons. Michelins last forever but they way too hard for my taste.

Thanks for the input.....I had Dunlap SP Sport 5000M on my list of tires I was considering, so it looks like that is the way to go. I live in the Philadelphia area, so wet roads and colder weather are the reason I need the all season tires.

I gave up on Pirelli tires back in 1970, when Pirelli Cinturatos were the newest thing. I still have the brochure! Terrible tires, they felt like concrete blocks and were dangerously slippery in wet weather. The term "All Weather" had not been born yet. P6 are good as long you're on dry smooth roads and can afford to replace them every 16 months. Abnormal wear is an understatement with the P6, I won't waste my money like that. I have used a set of Dunlop SP-40 in my 1984 XJ-6 for the last 12 years; No hydroplaning, no bulging, very reasonable wear and comfortable ride, and they stick to the asphalt like contact cement when you need them to, even during storms. Yes I know, time to get new tires, I'm going with Dunlop again, after all, Jaguars came with Dunlop tires from the 1950's to the 1970's, didn't they?

I run P6's on my Mercedes. They wear abnormally quickly, but are otherwise unremarkable. Haven't had any problem with buldging, but if I did, it would be a great excuse to get a new set of tires.
