I've just begun stripping down a '78 XJ-6, (Series 2). The goal is a complete restore but I need some help. I have a Haynes Jaguar XJ6 '68 thru '86 manual but it lacks alot of details I will need to do the job (mainly, putting it back together).
Does anyone know of a comprehensive manual available that I would be able to purchase that would help me with this project?

78 XJ-6 Restoration Project
I have plenty of sandwich bags and markers. I'll look into the Jaguar World magazine. Thank you for the quick response. With alot of luck I may have some pictures of the completed restoration to post (in a year or two).

78 XJ-6 Restoration Project
that would be the Factory Manual, and if the Series 2 Factory Manual is as "comprehensive" as the Series 3 XJ Factory Manual, you might find a lot of guesswork is part of the job in many areas. The Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust has those in CD format, around $25. try a local Jaguar dealer for the same CD. Overall, forget the Haynes, those are a "digest" of the real Service & Parts Manual. Also, there are Books that deal with refurbishing and restoration, sold by Jaguar World magazine. (note: if subscribing to Jaguar World, do it direct, you'll get better service). The best tools that I have found are a video camera, a tripod, a digital camera, a plain notepad and pencil, a magic marker, and a box or two of sandwich baggies. It slows the disassembly to be writing notes and videotaping and photographing everything, then putting the screws in bags and labeling them, but it speeds up the re-assembly tenfold. Try remembering all those steps and parts after 8 months of having the car disassembled! "Now, where did I put those grille nuts and star washers?"
the cheapest part of my old car refurbishing hobby is always the sandwich/ziplock bags!
