I recently bought a 1985 XJ6 Vanden Plas (got it from my mechanic who owned and babied it himself). But he didn't have the owner's manual, and I have not been able to locate one yet.
The immediate problem I have is one of the warning/indicator lights comes on while I am driving. It is the left one on the bottom row, and it looks like something to do with a liquid (just a guess). I thought it might be for the oil, but when I checked, that was close to full.
So, does anyone know what that indicator is for?
Thanks in advance,
ken

It's a bad symbol of a radiator. It's the indicator for your coolant level. The sensor for that is located in the overflow tank. Top of your coolant and you should be fine.

Ken: Owner's manuals are available, and you need one. You may also want to get the Repair Manual for this car (the Jaguar original, not Haynes; check eBay for these items). The indicator light is for the coolant. Check the coolant level in the brown expansion tank; the level when cold should just reach the bar visible in the opening. If the level is correct, the light is coming on because the sensor is coated. The light will often come on, especially while the coolant is cold, is the sensor probe is not clean; once the coolant heats and moves around a bit, the light will go out. The sensor is located at the bottom of the tank (just look for the wire; you can remove it and clean it, but you need something to plug the hole whilke the sensor probe is out).
