Any hints on installing oil filter canisters without leaks on 3.8 engine.

Terry,
I have a '68 OTS and have found that the best solution is an adapter kit for a spin-on filter. These are available from Welsh Enterprises, S&G Barratt, or XK's and they're not very expensive. Hope this solves your problem.

I have a 69 XKE Series 2, 2+2. I just had a mechanic shop install a new filter and change my oil. It worked for about 25 miles, then started to flow out the side. Looks like I will be trying to do it myself. Does my 4.2 liter have the same issues as the 3.8?

I'm guessing the answer is yes, so I will try some of your suggestions as I lay under the car. Probably a better question is where do I find a different oil filter solution than the stock canister that I have now?

Hey Chuck, Just make certain you replace the O-ring in the filter housing when you replace the filter. Normally the new filter comes with 2 O-rings. The skinny one is the correct one. I use a dental pick to remove the old ring. Grease the new ring & make sure it is seated in the housing. Hold pressure on the canister as you tighten the 5/8 headed center bolt to center the housing. Check for leaks.
Joey, been doing this for 35 years, if done right, never a leak....
Cheers Tom
