I LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS PROBLEM. I JUST COMPLETED A 150 MILE TRIP TO THOMPSON SPEEDWAY IN CT, AND CONSUMED OR BLEW OUT 2+ QUARTS OF OIL
I HAVE DISCONNECTED THE AIR FILTER AND PLEUM , NOT A GOOD IDEA AND THE OIL WAS DRIPPING OUT OF THE OIL BREATHER HOSE.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER , 1964 XKE S1 COUPE, WITH ABOUT 122K MILES, ENGINE NEVER BEEN REBUILT.
THE COMPRESSION RATIO IN 5 CYLINDERS IS 150 PSI AND THE 6TH IS DOWN TO 130PSI. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION EXCEPT FOR THIS OIL LEAK.
MY DILEMNA IS WHAT DO I DO FIX THE HEAD , OR DO A COMPLETE REBUILD.
I POSE THIS QUESTION TO THE FORUMM AND RESPECT YOUR COMMENTS.

heavy loss of oil
THANKS JOE FOR THE COMMENT. YES, I HAVE CHANGED A NUMBER OF CLUTCHES, AND I DO THE JAGUAR SLALOMS, CARS GOT PLENTY OF POWER AFTER 50 YEARS.
A NOTE , SERIES 1 JAGUARS WITH GENERATORS DO NOT WORK WELL WITH PETRONIX
DISTRIBUTORS.
I WILL CHECK THE SCREEN

heavy loss of oil
Well, since im driving my etype around 6,000 miles every year in and out. Check your front breather screen, if plugged , pressure builds in the block pushing oil out the back.
Lets be honest here. 130.000 miles and its 50 years old.........the car was not designed to last this long without 3 rebuilds..........never changed the clutch? ..
Just having fun , don't take it personally, but we were doing rebuilds anywhere near 50 ,000 miles, or worse would happen, holed pistons, loose chaijns....
Your an original owner, pull it out, put modern seals, modern, spin on.add electric ignition and enjoy the car another 50 years.......good job.

heavy loss of oil
i had a similar problem recently and it was caused by the oil bypass hose between the filter head and the sump being loose. i hope your problem is similarly easy to repair.
Im putting two and two together , 50 year owner, plus give or take 20 years on top of that for age, your not yelling right?
Joking, Ed you seems to be old school, Petronix does stink on the old generator models. Like your driving, I might do a run from, N.y. to the mansions up in Maine any interest.
Ive got a couple of friends who drive their jags, its a wonderful thing. either way....
Good luck, either way.
