i have a problem with my transmission. it wont shift when cold but work very well when hot... i made an oil change and add some stuff in it, but it didn't change. Any advice would be great! Should i change the whole transmission or rebuilt it? What kind of oil is the best for it? i think it's a GM transmission on it...what could be wrong? waiting for answers soon! thank u! i also have many parts from a 1985 XJ6 for sale...

Re.: transmission problems on XJ6 1986
You need a rebuild. This is not a GM transmission. It is a Borg-Warner model 66, similar to what is in a Saab. They used GM Turbohydromatic 400 transmissions in XJS's not XJ6's.
You can get kits to put in the transmissions from the XJ40's (1988 - 1994 XJ6's) but they run around $4,500.00 USD. A rebuild on your Borg-Warner is probably going to run well over $2,000.00 USD.

Regarding your transmission the cost of a rebuild is only about $700.00
Canadian Funds. The time to re and re it is about six hours. If you have a hoist you can do it yourself. No big deal as I have done it myself.
