Hello all.
Sadly i'm new. I have a minor issue with a '76 (ish) XJ6 I am purchasing.
The original owner died back in 1996. His car was garage kept the entire time.
The vehicle went to his family and has been stored and tarped since then.
The car has 9020 original kilometers.
I believe it to be a 1976 or so model.
So here are my two questions.
One,where is the VIN on XJ6 models?
I didn't have enough time to find it. I looked under the hood and on the drivers side dash and didn't spot it. I may have just missed it but I plan to see the car again in two days and when I do, I'd prefer to know where that is.
And two,the vehicle has no keys.
The original owners family has long lost it as well as the spares.
So either I need to get new keys made (which would obviously happen anyways) or I need to be able to "hotwire" the car to insure that the car can be started.
Today I put jumpers on it and put the hazards on and the lights came on so that is functional but I need to be able to start it.
Suggestions/Tips?
Would be thankful.
Oh,also, aside from VIN,what is a great telltale way of being able to tell the car year?
I judged based apon the interior but I was just curious.
Quite sorry if i'm long winded. I hope to hear back from any of you.
Thank you.

I am not sure if the dealer can cut keys for such an old car, but if they can you will have to have either the car with you, or proof of ownership in order to have a duplicate key made.
I dont know if they can do it from just the VIN ( they wont anyway unless you have proof of ownership). Worst case you could always call in an automotive locksmith.
