I have a 76 XJ6L, when I bought all the door locks worked except for one, the driverÆs door. I was working on replacing it, then after I replaced it the passenger front lock quit working, so I replaced that and the passenger rear lock quit working!! Then the other night I went out to work on the locks again none of them are working now! So IÆm very confused did I do something wrong??
I keep hearing about the breaker above the fuse panel (I havenÆt found that yet). Also I think thereÆs in-line fuses some where under the rear driverÆs seat? Is this true?
Any input in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Re.: locking woes
Try your dealer or bonnet to Boot in Los Angeles 818 757 7050. get the correct one, it isn't expensive and it will fit without modification. You have rectified the short haven't you?

Re.: locking woes
Any of the usual Jag suppliers (Coventry West, Moss Motors, etc) should be able to get a new breaker. However, there's no reason (originality aside) that you couldn't simply replace it with with a 30 amp fuse and holder.

Re.: locking woes
Hello thanks for the info, although a little late. The Breaker quit working I just took it out a few min ago. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement? Or does any one know what the voltage or amps is??
Thanks

Re.: locking woes
It sounds as though you now have a short which is operating the circuit breaker, unless you find the problem it will destroy the breaker. Look back over your previous work. Linkage adjustment is very important, when you install a new solenoid you have to adjust it so that it operates fully and freely in each direction. Also to close the doors from inside the car the front doors have to be closed. If you wish to lock them from inside when exiting; you must first pull the door opening handle, pull back on the locking lever then release the opening handle. Any other method will damage/move the linkage.

Re.: locking woes
Hi Grant,
The thermal breaker is mounted above the main fuse block. Look up there and you'll see a cube shaped black relay with green wires. Just inboard of that is a smaller black part about 1 inch tall and 3/4 inch wide mounted vertically. This is the thermal breaker for the door locks. It has a large brown wire and a large brown with blue trace wire going into the top of it.
The door lock relays are mounted inside the rear seat cushion support on a series 2. One relay is for locking and one is for unlocking.
You're problems sound like sticking linkages. Try cleaning and lubricating all the door lock linkages and mechanisms and see if that helps. If the locks are sticking, the solenoids will actuate, but the locks won't move. Sticking linkages can also will create enough drag to trip the thermal breaker.

Once again thanks for the input John, William, Doug. Well it seams that after I replaced all the solenoids. For some reason or another the ground located with the relays was bad. So I fixed that and replaced the breaker now everything is going great thanks again.
