I have a 1988 XJ6. I have a question about the power door locks. The driver's side door locks work fine, locking and unlocking both by moving the knob, or by key. However the passenger side does not. I beleive I have a bad door lock actuator on the passenger front door, because you can't hear the actuator, nor does the lock mechanism even try. The passenger rear actuator tries, but it will go from lock to unlock back to lock very rapidly.in approx. 1 sec. Is this a common symptom for a common failure in these cars? ( eg. a relay, or possibly feedback from the bad actuator), or is this something I'm going to have dig for?

Re.: Power door locks
I don't know if the XJ-40 (1988) has the same system as the S3 XJ-6, (1980-1987 US) but try lubricating all linkages first, which means removing the trim on all doors one-by-one then spraying silicone or similar lube as you manually move the lock linkages to exercise them. Freezing weather has a lot to do with the problem. There is an article about this at jag-lovers.
search the jag-lovers archives for 'door locks', select XJ-40 in the 'where to look' box.
thanx I'll start with that, and see where it gets me.
