I have a few more questions in addition to my headlight question re:
91 XJ 6 Sovereign. It has 48k. I'll be picking it up in Ft lauderdale on 2/2 (yes, its the ebay car) and staying in Coral Gables (hi Wes) for a month before driving home to Rockland Cnty, NY.
In addition to oil and oil filter change, should I change tranny fluid and tranny filter(my cousin,an airplane mechanic and auto buff suggests I do so), spark plugs, air filter? Or an other parts?
It may need tires within six months, any reccomendations on make and model tire from moderate to high prices?
Does this model year have any profound faults to keep an eye out for?
Any other reccomendations?
TIA

Re.: 1st time jag
Correction- that should be Coral Springs (not Coral Gables)

Re.: 1st time jag
I had a 93 XJ6 (sold it on ebay 3 years ago!)It had 100k when I sold it, but I had intended on keeping it (untill the new S-Type caught my eye). Anyhow, I only had one problem with the car, and that was a rear wheel bearing but when it went, it caused damage to the brakes on the wheel etc. and was an expensive repair. The car at the time had about 85k. I'm not sure if I missed the signs that things were about to go wrong and should have done preventative maintenance. I always had it serviced. As far as tires,in 93 you could only use Perelli's (odd size) and they were expensive and had a soft compound that didn't last too long, so if possible, I'd avoid them on your car unless forced as I was with the 93 to use them. Otherwise I was a happy camper and loved the car. My V8 S-type is even better. It doesn't do too well in the snow however, due to wide tires, rear wheel drive and lots of torque.I'm not too far from Rockland, Co, (NW Jersey) You're lucky to get to Fla now. Cold & snow up here. enjoy the car. BTW, I am in the Jaguar Auto Group and if you'd like to join the club, contact me, we're on the JCNA web page, we'd love to have you as a new member.

2000 S-Type V8
If you are lucky enough to get a used Jag with good service records you can easily see what has and hasn't been done and work from there. No point in duplicating recently done servicing.
However, if any doubt, I suggest a major service just to re-establish a starting point from which future servicing can be based. This would be changing or flushing all fluids, replace all filters, repack bearings, plugs, cap, plug wires, etc etc.
