I received the following email, and I'm not sure of what the answers are... I though maybe our experienced judges would know

----
"I am inquiring to find out if Jag made a special 1999 XK8 edition. I am refering to red piping and a Jag cat insert on the seats. How about gold trim on the XK8?
Also, I was told that only the XKR had red wheel and fender emblems, not the XK8. Is this correct?"
----

For the lexus like gold trim, the best I can find, is a 0.20 point deduct per incorrect trim item for the outside and .03 per incorrect trim item inside.

I've always thought that until 2002, only XKRs had red background badges, XK8s had green. so that would be incorrect trim as well right?

it seems to me that the owner would have to show proof that the custom piping was indeed a special model and not a dealer custom job...

In this case I agree with you that some documents would need to come from the owner. I looked at my catalogues for that year and the ones on either side and found nothing like that. Rule of thumb is special options from the factory are easily traced because there was additional charges-no free ride. You have made me curious however about some of the "special" cars that were offered thru companies like Neiman Marcus (spelling?). Do you have a catalogue of those cars. One day we will be hunting them.

On the lighter side do you not think Jaguar's F1 effort has Ferrari up at night? Me neither.

don't have a picture... don't even know where the car is from... I didn't recognize the E-mail address but I looked at the message headers and it came out of a server in the North East...

i think however it's an interesting judge training question... did I get the rule interpretation right at 0.2 and 0.3 per gold plated item?

how about the burden of proof on the custom leather... occasionaly I've seen cars with special trim that were not the well docuemnted 100 or Silverstone. Is it up to the entrant to show that this was indeed a Factory special?
