Hey guys...got a question;
The green wire that is the hot wire to the thermal fuse that branches off to the a/c compressor has no juice. The a/c works if I jump a good 12 volt to the thermal fuse. Obviously don't want to run it like that.
My somewhat worthless book shows a wiring diagram where the green wire goes to the thermostat. Maybe there is a fuse or relay somewhere in there that has that wire dead at the compressor.
What could I try to swap out to get that wire hot again so my a/c functions? The a/c Relay? The fuse for the relay/cluth (15 amp) is good.
The way I tested that green wire is as follows:
Turned on the a/c full blast with thermostat set to 65 degrees. Checked that wire with voltmeter and it had nothing. If I jump a good 12volt wire to the center wire of the thermal fuse the clutch kicks in, the idle drops a hundred or so in rpm and the a/c blows nice and icey.
Any help would be appreciated gents!

Re.: A/C thermal fuse, etc
Hello Doug,
I'm pretty sure the green wire comes from the thermostat which gets its power from the servo. I know this sounds like a dumb thing for me to say but did you check the appropriate fuses? I see one in the diagram, key #67, a line fuse that appears to power this part of the servo that then powers the thermostat's "NY" (neon/yellow?) wire. The green wire is on the other side of the thermostat which then goes directly to the thermo fuse by the compressor.
I was lucky enough to find a wiring diagram for my '86 XJ6 in the owner's manual book that fortunately was still with my car when I bought it. One section is just the air conditioning so if you looked at this diagram, I'd be willing to bet you could troubleshoot the problem.
I'd be happy to blow it up on a copier for you and mail it to you if you'd like because even in it's present size, I'm having trouble reading it even with reading glasses AND a magnifying glass!!

Hello Doug,
The green wire comes from the thermostat which gets its power from the servo. I know this sounds like a dumb thing for me to say but did you check the appropriate fuses? I see one in the diagram, key #67, a line fuse that appears to power this part of the servo that then powers the thermostat's "NY" (brown with yellow tracer) wire. The green wire is on the other side of the thermostat which then goes directly to the thermo fuse by the compressor. So, if you want to swap something out, IÆd suggest the servo but if I were you, IÆd check to see that youÆve got power to the #2 terminal (brown wire with yellow tracer) at the servo before you swap it out. The servo looks like it has a plug with 14 pins on it. If my memory serves me correctly, the servo is in the car in back of the kick panel on the passenger side of the console where the climate control is.
