Hello to all, once again: I need to replace the cam cover gasket on my '94 xjs 4.0. It seems straight forward........but........please let me know, if you have experience, what not too obvious pot holes are there for making one utter profanities. Thanks Ali

cam cover gasket
1. New cam cover seals go on DRY, head surface clean and DRY.
2. Small bead of High Temp RTV on both half moon curved surface [lower] at rear.
3. Torque cover fasteners to NO MORE than 1 lb-ft or 1.5 Nm. Over-tightening will cause the cam cover to slice that channel gasket like a knife.......big leak.
4. Recheck fastener torque a couple times a year.
Other than that, no potholes whatsoever...... :-)
Cheers,
Thanks Steven, especially the note re: 1 ftlb or 1.5nm. I received a note indicating 17-20 ft lbs, and now I can see that a decimal point was not used. Should be 1.7-2.0.!! Our tomato crop (all five plants) are healthy and the fruit has started. "Will keep you updated on my progress. Smiles and hugs to all. Ali
