Does anyone know where to buy the rubber sleeves (boots) that go on the spark plug and coil leads coming out of the distributor cap. Part Number C.2607 according to IPL 5/2. I've tried the usual suspects. Thanks.

George - So good to here from you. Hope that quake didn't rattle you. I'm surprised that you agree with me about the Series 2's vs the ugly Series 1's, but I must say the lines of the 2+2's are an acquired taste, just like good beer and the other finer things in life:-) How to you put the nylon fuel T on without splitting it? Should I ream it out a little, or polish the copper tube and use some lanolin, or both? How about machining a chamfer at the ends as a stress relief thing? Any thoughts on this non-artistic matter are, as always, greatly appreciated. Oh, my 2+2 was not getting full throttle but I fixed it - tweaked it here and there until I was able to look down the throat and see it full open with the pedal to the metal - when I get it back on the road, I'll do the stall test as you so graciously suggested. It stopped raining in the NW so we're all coming out of hibernation.

Yep I got some- no way he gets them now. Stew- forget that I own several of each type- you are flying in the face of not only car guys but artest. Love my SII but the S1 is by everyones account the ideal shape. Next you are going to talk about the lines of a 2+2? George Camp

Gee Bob:
Now I know how to get your attention, but seriously, :) the S1's are ugly - the bumbers and directional signal lights are too close together -and they overheat - IMHO of course:) Here's the promised picture - had to get youngest son's help.

John:
Thanks for your interest. Yes, the sleeves are significantly different. I tried getting close at my favorite local parts house but no cigar. These sleeves are longer on the wide end than any I've ever seen. I found a place in NJ that can make them, provided I supply a drawing and sample, but I didn't want to get into JCNA Councours rubber sleeve supply business:) I'll try to post a picture tonight for the benefit of all concours judges:) Your statement, "...standard set of wires...". I thought "standard" and "Jaguar" were mutually exclusive terms:)

Stew,

Now I understand what you're talking about. Two thoughts come to mind -- Call Terry Lippincott 610-678-6775. He's a very knowledgable Jaguar restorer/mechanic in Sinking Spring, PA. He has access to old parts and some NOS. He might be able to hunt up what you're looking for. The other one you might contact is Stefan Roundy (stefanratbealenet.com). Stefan has tons of old parts and is also very helpful. One of the two of them will hopefully be able to get you what you need.

BTW, this is why I'd never get into doing a concours car. For me, driving the heck out of these cars is where the fun is at. But as the old lady said as she kissed the cow... "To each his own." I venture a guess that you get as much enjoyment out of finding that one right part that makes the car perfect as I get out of turning a great time on the slalom course. Which is why it's great that JCNA caters to all of our different interests.

Stew: I have orange 8mm plug wires on my car so obviously originality isn't at the top of my agenda, but your question has made me curious.

Are the original boots you describe significantly different than the boots that come with a standard set of wires one might pick up at Pep Boys?

Regards, John

Steve,
Thanks for the reply. This is a case of concours insanity. I orderred the whole replacement wire set from one of the usual suspects after being assurred that it had the rubber sleeves on both ends. When it came, it did not have the rubber sleeves on either end. I was able to purchase the sleeves for the plastic champion spark plug caps from another usual suspect. The rubber sleeves that go over the plastic screw ends on the distributor is what I'm still trying to find. I have a picture of the original sleeves on two different S2's that were at CC in Phoenix, if that would help. Although listed in IPL 5/2 for Series 2 E-Types, I suspect that these may be the same as found on the Series 1 E-Type, as the part number is low. I did not think to take a picture of any Series 1's to confirm this; S1's being so inferior to the S2's, I try to keep my distance from them:)

Stew,

Do you mean the "Champion" boots that go on the plugs? I thought that SNG Barratt was now producing wire sets for the E-type with the Champion boots on them. I don't think they sell the boots separately, only as replacement wire sets, however. If the boots are shot, wouldn't that call the integrity of the wires into question, thus making more sense to just replace the whole set?
