I have restored two cars from the ground up and am on my third and final one, a 1970 2+2 that was my dad's.
I do these undertakings because I enjoy it, I get to work with my hands and I can see that I accomplish something. I do drive my cars and I enjoy having people ask about them and marvel at what I have done. I have driven my MG TC to painted Post, N.Y. and St. Paul Mn. several years ago and have driven my MGB GT to Valley Forge and to Reno.
I am not a polisher but I don't abuse my cars. I like them to look nice but they have all been in rain and there are chips in the paint.
When I get my Jag done I will drive it, if I am able, and expect to enjoy comments about it. I work to bring my cars to original status but I can't say they are 100% as they left the factory.
When I go to shows I am amazed at others cars and how much work people put into them, some better then mine and some not quite as nice. Some drive them and some trailer them, each to their own. I couldn't say this 18 years ago as I thought they all should be driven. I now understand that for some showing their cars is a good end point and for others driving them is their end point
I think that all of us that maintain these machines can feel good about our efforts and need not apologize for our differences.
My opinion only. Joel.

No apology needed.
And it's a good opinion, Joel.
There are many different ways to enjoy the hobby...each to be enjoyed and respected for what it is.
Cheers
