Modern rack kits are available for the early sedans, it's possible that one could be adapted to your , Bill7

Fred, I did this conversion on a MkVIIM LHD several years back so I probably don't remember all of the details but here is a general outline: generator/pump assembly, high pressure hose, return hose, PS reservoir with filter, MkIX power steering box, power steering pitman arm. Fitment is tight around the PS pump, for this reason get a new or used genuine MkIX high pressure hose. If used, take the hose to a hydraulic house and have it remanufactured with the salvaged fittings. You will need to make some cut outs in the inner fender to allow passage of the high pressure and return lines. Do not expect the PS box to be leak tight, even when using a rebuilt unit, just the nature of the beast.

Two trip's a week to your local gym for about a month, should do it. :-))
Due to the way the steering is set up in a MK 7-8-9, a rack will not fit.
