Our 1990 XJ-S convertible also has a radar detector of sorts mounted topside on the steering column next to the instrument cluster. Is this a factory accessory, or aftermarket add-on?
How does this unit work being mounted at the base of the steering column?

Radar Detector
That is not a factory radar unit. It is most likely a K40 brand detector. Those were really popular back in the day. We installed many, many of those. Some were front only, some were front/rear models. It probably should just be ignored now, radar technology advancements have rendered those devices mostly useless.
