I just got home and turned the key off and removed it. The engine shut down but the radiator fans and the A/C fan continued to run. I put the key back in and started the car and turned it off again with the same results. I disconnected the battery for now. Any ideas on where to start?(no pun intended)
Thanks

George,The mechanic said it came with a break-off bolt of some sort but he(we) opted not to break it off in the event we need to get back in there. I am not worried about the security(theft) issues.

Mike right you are. I did not introduce the S2 ref. or the plate ref. You did the best thing. A question--did your supplier provide the safety bolts with the purchase? I have not bought one in a while.

George, my car is a series 3 therefore the switch is on the column. Replaced it and it works perfectly.
Thanks for the input everyone!

Joseph/Mike while it may indeed be the switch all Series 2 cars did not use the same switch. The culprit on the switches was the normal addition of AC. With good contacts and the cover boot on thee is rarely a problem but that area gets battered a lot by the drivers (esp. if they are on the large side). Not sure what a 2+2 "plate" has to do with anything as early S2 cars mounted either on the column or the AC evap. case. Later s2 cars had a locking column where the switch lived. Again in both cases it was drivers abuse that caused the problem. Call one of the sponsors of JCNA and just get a new switch.

Thanks for the input Joe. It's getting a whole new switch which I'm quite sure is the problem. If I'm at Dream Cruise in the Jag that means I was successful. If I'm in one of the Corvettes, I have additional problems. My brother AJ (Andy) has a GT. Blue with White stripes. You guys probably know each other. We use his place as home base for this weekend.

Ignition won't shut off
Hi Mike just left woodward with the FORD GT crowd. The 2 weak spots are the key switch but also the fan relay.
Series 2 ignition key switches, STINK!
They burn out as the current goes through the switch..
Its a bad set up.
I switched to a STANDARD switch and used a 2+2 ignition plate, WHAT A DIFFERENCE to say the least. See if you can do it........

Thanks for the help... After messing with it for a while, I'm 99% sure it's' the ignition switch. I hope I can get it repaired before Dream Cruise or I'll have to take American muscle(Corvette).

Ignition won't shut off
Hi Mike,
I believe this happened to me too, and it turned out to be one of the fan relays not kicking off when the ignoition was turned off. Tap them lightly w/ the head of a screwdriver, one at a time, to see if you can isolate a bad one - there are two above the radiator, under the fan shroud. Looking at the wiring diagram is helpfull.

Thanks for the quick response William. I drive the car almost daily and typically when I turn the key off the fans do turn off at the same time. Occasionally they will remain on but if I fiddle with the key a bit they turn off. This is the first time they would not turn off AND the A/C fan remained on. I just connected the battery after the car cooled down and the fans still kick on as well as the A/C fan.
Puzzled... could it be the ignition switch?

did you check your wiring diagram? I don't have one for your car, but sounds like it is operating as it should, and the fans will cut off when the temperature sensor indicates the engine is cool enough. the ignition key may not be wired in series with the fan relay circuit.
Thanks--exactly what I needed to know/
