I am told that the engine to subframe and frame to subframe straps are located on the front passenger side. I just cannot seem to locate them.

Cannot find the two grounding straps on an 1986 XJS
Thanks for the response. So what is the difference between the red battery light and the yellow lightening bolt light? Thanks.

The flickering probably doesn't mean an overcharging condition. More likely, your alternator is putting out low voltage as it bootstraps, which is perfectly normal. The only way to determine whether the voltage is low or high is to connect a fast-reacting voltmeter to the B+ terminal of the alternator. In the unlikely event that the alternator is surging as you start up, the problem is either corroded alternator wiring or fouled slip rings.
You may get better response time if you replace the brush/VR pack on the rear of the alternator, and clean up the slip rings.

Update. The two grounds helped TREMENDOUSLY, however, when I initially start the car the red battery light flickers initially and then goes out. This indicates a potential overcharging situation meaning the voltage at the alternator is higher than the voltage at the battery.

Also I would like the starter. To turn over a little faster, new battery also difficult to shift because of the transmission cable kirby palm suggested the starter may be This as a ground

I have a flAky voltage issue one day the car runs perfectly other times charging at 13.5 at idle other times the voltage fluctuates at the pos side of the coil and the car idles too low and dies

YES! Truth be told, you can't have enough grounds!
What exactly, is it you are trying to accomplish?? Maybe we should back up a step or two.

Also if I am grounding directly from the engine to the frame, do I still need to ground between the subframe and the engine?

Again, I am just trying to rule out an engine ground issue. What if I clamp with vice grips a ground strap to the alternator mounting bracket on the engine and clamp the other end to the tow hook that would give me engine to body and then clamp the other strap to somewhere accessible on the sub frame to the engine?

That's the only safe way to go about it. Be sure it is securely set on more than one stand.
Cheers,

That business there is obviously on a heavily modified car, nothing like stock. In that instance, it should get the job done though. The original straps are on the other side as I mentioned earlier. However, I did make a mistake in the first post. The straps go from engine to subframe, then from subframe to BODY about 8 inches in front of the V-Mount. Sorry.
Cheers,

Do I need to raise the car on jack stands? Does the attached picture show the strap location.

You will find them on the LH side of the engine. In the middle of the block, at a sandwich plate bolt the ground strap is in two sections. From the engine bolt it goes to the subframe near the motor mount [right above the LH steering rack bellows] then there is another one from that same point to the engine, I think right below the P/S pump.
Happy hunting!
The flickering is normal.
