I am in the process of detrimming the vehicle for a complete respray. I don't
quite know how to remove the exterior chrome moldings that sit below the windows. Any info would be fantastic.
Thanks, Bill

86 Series 3 window exterior belt molding removal
I hired an auto glass installer to remove both windows and to reinstall them. I don't know where he got the seals from but yes, you have to replace them. They're are two or three pieces in each set and you also have to be careful when removing the chrome so as not to bend the pieces.

William, thanks for the reply. That's what I thought. Did you replace the window seals when you did the respray? If so, where is the best place to buy from? Also, what is the procedure for removing the seals?

86 Series 3 window exterior belt molding removal
When I did a complete respray on my 1986 XJ6, I didn't remove those. It requires a major dis-assembly of the doors and it's not worth it and not needed. You should remove the rear window and windshield.
If the rubber stock is in very good condition, can re-use.........in other cases aged rubber will need to be replaced. Same case as 82 XJ6 Series lll.
