There were at least two changes in bumper design on the early cars (say a 62), as I see it the difference was how they mounted. But were they also a little different in length? The first type had no access to mounting points except from inside the boot and had rubber spacers included. I believe the second type had cut outs underneath, apparently, so they could be mounted from below and, had solid spacers. Can anyone confirm or clarify

Bumpers
There was a change from a full profile rear bumper to one that had a small cut-out at the very end to allow the removal of the bumper over-rider without removing the whole bumper blade. This change was done somewhere around the introduction of the 4.2l E-type, but I have not seen any mention of the change in any of the parts bulletins, and the part numbers for the 3.8l and earlier 4.2l cars are the same, ie. BD.15887 (R.H.) and BD.15888 (L.H.). My early 1964 FHC still has the full profile rear bumpers. Perhaps George can shed some more light on this particular change.
The change that William really wanted to know about was at Left Hand Drive cars 1E.11741 & 1E.32010, where the whole mounting system changed to one that had the bumpers attached from the outside of the car. These are bumper part numbers BD.28608 (R.H.) and BD.28609 (L.H.). This is from Parts bulletin #P.159 of March 1966, late in Series 1 production.
William may be interested in knowing that the bulletin does say that "The parts introduced by this modification may be fitted, IN SETS, as replacements for the earlier Rear Bumpers", thus if he is not too concerned with originality, he could change those old ones for new ones while the tank is out.
Cheers, Mark R.
