I have removed a/c unit and throttle tower there is a cover over the jackshaft that looks like I might get it out without removing the whole front of the car,it's cramped but I could dismantle the front of the engine without removing radiator and hood lock the gears on timing chain undo and is there some way of getting it out through cover or does it only come out the front of engine? Also any hints on removal so as not to do anymore damage?I got those steadily depressing low down mind messing working on my jaguar blues.Thank you for any help I can get.

1987 XJ12 jackshaft removal
William one distributor pawl spring broke and the pawl jammed and tore out the gear teeth of the jackshaft [auxiliary shaft]. I think iv'e found one will order tomorrow .After viewing parts schematic can see why it has to come out the front of the engine ,as I see the chain tensioner bolts through to the jackshaft gear.As I have little experience working on jags and none on the v12 . would appreciate any help I can get. THX.

1987 XJ12 jackshaft removal
Hello Maurice, why are you removing it?
Maurice, I have done that job before and it would be better to take off the hood and the radiator. The jack shaft comes out the front of the motor. I could help you do the job but nobody is ever within driving distance.
