My XJ220 has internal engine problems..low compression in one cylinder, oil leaking into air breather, causing heavy smoking/low power. Don Law wont sell engine parts or provide any specs, so current solution is ship the engine and/or car to England for him to repair. Any thoughts on alternative solutions?

Any experienced jag shop would know who to contact. But if not I would suggest trying European sources for the parts. But, you can't know what parts you need until you open it up, so my suggestion would be to find a good mechanic, disassemble to confirms the extent of the damage then move from there. If you cannot find the expertise here then you would still need to remove the faulty parts for shipment somewhere anyway.

There is a shop in South Holland, IL (Import Automotive Group) that just did an amazing re-build on my VDP recovering from a broken chain tensioner. They pulled the head, replaced all the other internal plastic parts (other side tensioner, water pump impeller and thermostat housing.
I would suggest that you call them and talk with either Keith Perry or "Bob" at the shop.
(708) 225-0140. They specialize in Jaguars and have about 20-26 in various stages of rebuild. Giive them a try

I seem to recall a member in our club recently had similar issues and found the problem. I will pass your note along to him.

Muncie Imports in Indiana was the company responsible for Certifying the cars to enter the USA. They usually have one or two in for service. Probably the best bet in the US before shipping it off.

Gordon contact Doug Dwyer off this forum---on the other hand the JCNA tech line has some technical info on the 220.

The only shop in the US where I've seen an XJ220 actually receiving attention is Automotive Restorations in Stratford, CT. http://www.automotiverestorations.com.

Will they not even supply you with a headgasket? That's the least you will require, if only to pull a head to inspect the damage.

Hi Gordon,
Yes the engine will have to come out. There is damage to that piston or the rings which is allowing the compressed mixture to by-pass & blow the oil vapor into your breather & pull oil vapor into the combustion chamber, ignite & blow black smoke out the tail pipe.
You could try to contact Jason Len @ XK's Unlimited, ( http://www.xks.com/ ), or Classic Jags, ( http://www.classicjaguar.com/ ), right down there in TX. Dan Mooney's tel.numb. is (512) 288 9752. Can't say if they ever tackled an XJ-220 engine but won't hurt to try.

Regards, Otto M.
