A pleasant surpise for Bosch V12 owners. if the unit or the dump module expires, a Chevvy van alternator from a 1990 will work in its place more or less in place of the original........... the big wire is the same, and for the light you use the brown wire from the Chev alternator.........so only 2 wires are needed....At idle this unit put out 14.2 volts.....The pulleys are the same.LOL. how good is that....

V12 Bosch Alternator
Thanks for the info Art, but do you have a model no of the alternator? GM provide about 8 options in the same casing. Yours ia apparently a high output unit. The trouble is it may be too high! The nominal voltage of a fully charged 12 Volt battery ir 13.2 . As we know modern vehicles are a tota;lly controlled by electrically fed modules and computers. Due to the heavy usage manufacturers have continually raised the output voltage in order to ensure there is enough power to satisfy the systems. The fact is the battery is being overcharged and overused. Most modern car batteries are lasting 5 years max, many are still able to start the car but unable to provide the output needed to operate the systems, thus the practise of using two full batteries, one for starting and essential circuits the other to operatre the computers. Be carefull as your car probably has neither the need of such high output, nor the systems to use it, All you need is 13.2.
Hi William,
the alt5ernator can be sourced using the following info......
1990 Chev G Van,
305 CU IN,
2 wheel drive,
No a/c.
That should do it.........Best wishes,
