Hi Again,

When I purchsed my e-type I had to drive it a little over four hours to get it home on a 95 degree day. When I pulled off the highway to fuel up the oil pressure dropped down to around 10 lbs at idle. This indicates weak main and rod bearings to me. The car runs very well with no other noticeable issues. My question, can the oil pan be removed in the car and the bearings replaced without removing the engine assy?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil Wood

Hi Phil,
I have much the same problem with my 64 FHC. The original (previous) owner tells me it has always been like that! I have checked and changed everything. Lately I have begun to suspect the oil pressure relief valve. I changed it and note that the copper valve does not seem to seat correctly. The copper has a ridge around one half but the other half is smooth. I may try something to seal it.
The engine sounds good, no low oil sounds, oil on cams, etc.
Cheers
Dick

Hi William,

Thanks very much for your reply.

It currently has 20w - 50 Castrol in it.

I will either get a gauge and try it myself or have someone else check it.

Have someone fit a pressure gauge first & see if the readings are correct, but at that temp after a hard drive 10 is permisable, also are you using a heavy enough oil?
