I am having trouble locating a replacement for the above which mounts on the firewall of my 1984 VDP. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have used the cover from a junk standard relay to fix a broken diode pack before. May not be red, but it works.

Cheers,
Steve

I know Doug. The only reason I want to replace is the cover broke to pieces and I have the old one taped to protect it. I soldered a wire across the appropriate terminals to allow the car to start. The only problem is the fuel pump runs when the ignition is in the on position without the engine running. Minor problem though.

Best regards,

If you're even slightly capable with a soldering iron you can "rebuild" the diode pack with about $2.00 worth of parts from Radio Shack

Doug,

Link wouldn't work for me.....couldn't open "cart"

Thanks anyway, I think I found another source although expensive.

Three relays (main relay, cold start relay, and pump relay), and a diode unit are mounted on the engine rear bulkhead next to the vehicle battery. When the ignition key is turned on, the main relay is activated, connecting the battery circuit to the ballast resistors and the injectors. The relay also allows current to flow to the ECU and the pump switch on the air-flow meter. When the engine is cranked for starting, the diode unit is activated and thus energizes the auxiliary air valve, the cold start system and the fuel pump.

Al are you playing "stump the chumps"? If so you got me. Are you perhaps looking for the Red relay that controls the aux. fan (although that is on the radiator mount)> Help us out- and tell us what they (it) does and if you have a part noun or number. Thanks.
