I have a 73 xke series III. In the garage there is a slight gas smell but next to nothing. Driving this car there is a pronounced gas smell. The car drives beautiful and shifts beautiful. I take it around 80 on turnpike it drives as beautiful as it is in the suburbs. It has a aluminum radiator with fans and drives at perfect temperature. . Also at idle after warm up it is at 1200rpm. It also has a new aluminum gas tank as well. Any suggestions what to look for to get rid of the smell. I have other jaguars but this seems to smell more than than the others. Thanks for any help. Smell of gas
Hi Michael, Working as an engineer, I learned that when a problem first appears one should always ask "What changed?". In this case it was the gas tank. I would check all connections and hoses that were disturbed in the installation. If nothing is apparent, I would check the tank itself. It is a sad fact that new does not mean good.

Smell of gas
Michael I would start with the fuel return system and the emissions plumbing. Make sure all lines are secure and dry. Check under each carb for fuel leaks also.
My 66' E-type smelled of gas that my wife nagged me about and I ignored, until the gas started gushing out the bottom of the center carb. You guessed it, the rubber diaphram let go completly and had been leaking for quite sometime when ever the fuel pump was on. I rebuilt all three carbs and no more nagging and the car and garage smells great. Now about that oil leak.....I bought a nice drip pan for $10, problem solved. Don Hilston SFJC
